The TOWN OF BRANDON seeks a qualified candidate to fill a full-time interdepartmental position. This position is primarily and permanently in the Highway Department as a member of the Town Highway Crew. This interdepartmental position will also secondarily and temporarily provide coverage of a Buildings & Grounds position which is currently filled by a staff member unavailable for the next several months.
A successful applicant must be able to operate public works equipment and vehicles, conduct preventative maintenance and repairs, perform all types of road maintenance, install and repair components of municipal wastewater (sanitary sewer) and stormwater systems, and respond on a 24-hour basis to emergencies. As needed, the successful applicant will be required to conduct routine groundskeeping operations (spring clean-up and ongoing mowing of Town parks, recreation fields, and playground) at least until but not ending with return of the permanent Buildings & Grounds employee.
The successful applicant must function well as part of a team and within an established chain of authority. Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be experienced in highway maintenance, construction means and methods, equipment operation (grader experience a plus), or a related field and possess a valid State of Vermont Class B air brake endorsement commercial driver’s license (CDL). Pre-employment drug testing and intermittent unannounced testing is required.
